What is exercise physiology?
Clinical Exercise Physiology at its most simple, is the use of physical exercise as medicine. Exercise has countless benefits to our health and performance in all domains. In fact, our capacity for exercise appears to be among the greatest predictors of health and longevity, and arguably our most important tool to improve them. This is best encapsulated by Dr Robert Butler's quote:
"If exercise could be packed into a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and effective medication in the nation."
Not only is it effective in the treatment of illnesses, injuries and myriad conditions, it may also help us with performance on the playing field, in the workplace or even in our everyday life. It is our responsibility to understand how to put his incredibly powerful tool to its best use.

Knowledge
Behaviour
Outcome
When it comes to goals, we often think about the outcome that we are trying to achieve. But when it comes to figuring out how to achieve our goals, often it pays to work backwards. Identify the behaviours that will create our outcome, and gather the knowlege that enables the behaviour. In understanding knowledge and behaviours, we can create a structured plan and leave as little to chance as possible.
A useful metaphor is to think of the knowledge as a blueprint, the behaviours as the process and materials, and the outcome as a finished building. No one stage is more important than the others, but one is the culmination of others.
